Not long now until one of the best racing weeks of the year. Again, I’m steady away with any bets as would prefer to have a few more at the Cheltenham Festival. I have had a couple of stabs though. Caldwell EW at 6-1 in the 12:25 at Kelso and Sovereign Gold 5:05 Navan, priced at 11-8. Both should run well on paper. We have our Cheltenham preview night on Friday 12th starting at 7pm. A supe...

With Cheltenham on the horizon, I’ll be mainly holding fire from a betting point of view until the Festival. I have had one bet today though, a few pounds on GA Law in the 1:50 at Kempton. Just the four runners take their chance, the race looks between the top two in the betting, Ga Law and the odds-on favourite, Tamaroc Du Mathan. Ga Law has to carry a 5lb penalty and gives the Paul Nicho...

Excellent racing today up and down the country. Plenty of possible Cheltenham horses will have their chances enhanced or bubble burst. I’ve placed a lucky 15, a bet I rarely do, but hopefully it will give a bit of fun throughout the day. Two of the horses are fair odds so could go EW. 3:00 Ascot  Gladiateur Allen 3:18 Winc   Song For Someone 3:46 Ling    Raasel ...

Hugo 'N Taz heads North to Wetherby today and runs in the 3:12. Hugo struggled with the sharp turns of Plumpton last time, the more galloping track of Wetherby will suit him much better. Ground and trip will be fine, it's a competitive race but hopefully Hugo 'N Taz holds an EW chance if running to his best form.

A super day of sport, the Cricket is on, Six Nations starts today and brilliant racing at Sandown and Leopardstown. The Dublin racing fixture is like a mini–Cheltenham Festival, top class racing where bubbles will be burst and others cementing their chances. I’m very much looking forward to watching Chacun Pour Soi at Leopardstown in the 1:35. I think he takes the beating in the Champ...

We send Stung For Cash to Ffos Las this afternoon where conditions will be biblical. It's somewhat surprising the meeting is on, but pleasingly it is, so we'll take our chance. Stung For Cash didn't run very well at Warwick last time out, we hopefully have a few reasons to put a line through that effort. The track will be ideal for Cash, however if he can handle such deep bad ground we'll have t...

Tinsmith runs this evening in the last race at Kempton. Tinny ran really well last time out, a good second place at Lingfield. Tinsmith is growing into his huge frame and the penny is starting to drop. This will be Tinsmith's last run for a few months, he'll have a break and come back on turf in the summer. Distingo looks thrown in, the form of his second place in a jumpers bumpers last time is ...

Cheltenham trials day has succumbed to the weather. We’ve certainly seen a lot of rain of late but the ground at Cheltenham for the past couple of years has been very poor. People say Cheltenham dries quickly but that’s not the case any more, the course has been messed up by the constant watering. Turning the sprinklers on in October is foolish, what’s wrong with good ground? D...

We have a runner at Doncaster this afternoon, Artistic Language takes his chance in the 3:45. The meeting taking place is a good start with so many abandonments at the moment. It comes as no surprise the race is a maximum field, there will be hundreds of horses all ready to run up and down the country. Artistic Language ran well on his last start over hurdles but not so much after that when havi...

Very much looking forward to watching the Clarence House Grade 1 Chase at Ascot. The winner will likely come from one of the top three in the betting with Politologue the obvious horse to beat. Harry Cobden will bid to make all, Brian Hughes on Waiting Patiently, will be hoping to take aim close to home and deliver him in the last 100 yards. A return to form from Defi Du Seuil would make this a ...

Conditions will be biblical this afternoon at Warwick and Market Rasen. Good swimmers, big hoofs and endless stamina will be required! A watching brief for me, but I thought the below might be worth a throw away tenner. At Warwick in the 1:50, just three horses take their chance in a bid to win part of the 24k prize. It takes a brave man to take on any Paul Nicholls runner at the moment with the...

Fiscal Prudence makes his flat and AW debut for us tonight in the 6:00 at Chelmsford. Fiscal Prudence was too fast for NH racing, he jumped brilliant but always wanted to go two strides quicker. This resulted in him not getting home. Switching to the flat was the obvious move as Fiscal holds some good form in Ireland. Very much a learning curve tonight, trip and surface whilst the favourite, Fa...

Broughtons Admiral is having a run on the AW at Kempton this evening. Race time is 8:20.With the ground so bad at the moment, we've been keeping the ex flat horses that are now jumping ticking over on the level. The outings serve a purpose whilst at the same, we hope for a nice effort. Broughtons Admiral will need every yard of the two-mile trip. It's likely he will be outpaced at some point but sh...

Good news that all fixtures get the go ahead today. It’s certainly been a freezing cold and snowy week in parts. The Welsh National at Chepstow is the feature race of the day. No real thoughts on the race apart from there might not be many that finish. Lord Du Mesnil EW perhaps at 14-1. Couple of bets I've placed. The first one is Marion’s Boy EW at 9-2, 1:40 Lingfield. Marion’...

We have two runners on the AW today. It's handy having horses that can run on the all weather at this time of the year to keep ticking over. January's ground is awful, we try and avoid it over jumps when possible. Artistic Language used to be ex flat, he won't have any bother having a flat spin in the 12:45 at Southwell. Not a clue if he'll handle the surface, it was this or stay in his box at ho...

Tinsmith runs today in the 2:40 at Lingfield. Tinsmith ran fine on his last run, as explained before we're trying to get some confidence into the horse after breaking his ribs in a fall. The step up in trip should suit Tinsmith on paper but less so on breeding. Tinny shaped like he would get two miles on his last start, so we'll give it a try. Another nice run would be ideal.
