Huge amounts of rain have fallen in the past 24 hours, two inches in Leicester has seen today’s fixture turn from good to firm to soft ground, and the meeting needing to pass an inspection! I really hope the going at Ascot dries out for next week, it will be a shame if we see soft in the description. Genuine good going suits everybody.

Punting today is very difficult because of the weather, the only horse I’ve backed is Arab Poet in the 1:40 at Sandown. His odds have tumbled since though. I’m not sure I would now back him at even money, however, I do think he should go well.

It’s more of a watching brief for me, with the football on later “no doubt more let down from England” and Royal Ascot next week I’ll be keeping my powder dry.
