Competition followed up his win the previous week with an impressive effort at Uttoxeter on Wednesday. Our horse showed a smart turn of foot and won decent novice hurdle in fair style. Sam Twiston Davies gave Competition a lovely ride. Competition looks progressive and is doing what we thought he might under our and Dr Newland’s care. He was a cheap private purchase, his owners bought into ...

Mountain Rescue ran a grand race for us in the valuable Bunbury Cup at Newmarket on Saturday, finishing 8th beaten just 4 lengths. As things turned out, we had no chance from our draw in stall 19. We we’re away from the pace whilst everything went to the right from the off, we were no man’s land. We didn’t have anything to give us a tow into the race and had to challenge wide an...

Fantastic racing today up and down the country today. I’m heading to Newmarket as we have Mountain Rescue running in the £120,000 Bunbury Cup at 1:40. It's great to have another big Saturday runner. Mountain Rescue has given his owners some fantastic days out, including Royal Ascot when last seen. Today is another one of them. Mountain Rescue fully deserves his place in such a race an...

Competition won for us and his owners at Uttoxeter on Tuesday, the winning distance was 17 lengths. What the form is worth I’m not sure as the odds-on favourite failed to give his running. You can only beat what’s in front of you though and Competition did it well. The horse deserved his first career win. Competition has been a nice fun purchase for us finishing out of the first three ...

The sun is still shining, two more winners on Saturday, one football one horse plus England are in the semi finals of a World Cup. Things can’t be bad! France vs Belgium takes place this evening, this should be a cracking game. I’m just siding with Belgium despite the fact France arguably have the better starting eleven. If the big-name players of France, Pogba, Kante, Mbappe & G...

A great day of sport ahead, I’ll start with the football. England made heavy work of beating Colombia but went through on penalties thank goodness. The tactics by Colombia were very poor, they aimed to kick us off the park. Sweden stand in the way of a semi final spot this afternoon. Sweden are awkward, they will sit back and take a 1 nil or extra time. We don’t have a great record a...

The World Cup that keeps on giving. I’m not sure the standard is the best we’ve ever seen but for excitement levels, it’s been nothing short of spectacular. I was very glad Belgium turned it around against Japan last night. It seemed my bet on the Croatia vs Belgium final, had gone out of the window. The problem with Belgium, their manager isn’t good enough for the team. W...

Withhold was a very easy winner of the Northumberland plate for trainer Roger Charlton and owner Tony Bloom. There was never a moments worry. Sent to the front from the word go, Withhold had an easy time of things in the lead and powered away for a superb win. As mentioned on the blog yesterday, I thought Withhold was a Group horse and he clearly is. The win was a huge gamble landed, it was great...

It’s been a quite week and perhaps the calm after the storm since Royal Ascot. One things for sure, it’s hot. I dare say hose pipe bans aren’t far away! The World Cup has made some decent viewing, surely everybody knows it’s going to be a Croatia V Belgium final. Priced at 25-1, you heard it hear first. Croatia have been the outstanding team in my opinion. They have the be...

We had a good afternoon at Market Rasen with Adams Park & Ilovemints, two solid 3rd placed efforts. Adams Park ran well on his hurdling debut, he was a bit green and will need further but showed plenty of promise. Ilovemints put in a much better round of jumping and was perhaps unlucky to bump into two, well handicapped horses over hurdles. Both the 1st & 2nd won on the flat a few weeks ag...

Stradivarius won the Ascot Gold Cup for trainer John Gosden. The hot favourite, Order Of St George finished 4th and looked a little moody. Ryan Moore struggled to get the horse into a canter going down to the start. Stradivarius is only a 4yo and could dominate the staying division for a good few years. More great racing today with 4 Group races at Royal Ascot. It looks a minefield for betting wi...

We had the most fantastic time at Royal Ascot yesterday with Mountain Rescue. Everything from the welcome to the owner’s lunch was excellent. Ascot have got it spot on. Mountain Rescue ran his race too. Our horse showed up well for a long way in 3rd place on his side of the draw. However, the near side had the better ground and they were always a good 4 or 5 lengths ahead. Everything on the...

A hugely exciting today for us this this afternoon, I’ll come back to that in a moment. Day 1 of Royal Ascot made excellent viewing. Calyx was very impressive once again and looks a top-class prospect. The winning distance was only 1 length but that doesn’t tell the full story. Nothing could go with Calyx on his side of the draw from an early stage. He had nothing give him a tow into ...

It’s the first day of Royal Ascot this afternoon. Five fantastic days of racing at a fabulous racecourse. It’s a meeting with all its glitz & glamour that only the British can put on. It’s even more exciting this year as we have a runner. Mountain Recue takes his chance in the £175,000 Royal Hunt Cup on Wednesday. Having just two flat horses in training and one of them...

Just a short update today as we’re off to Hexham with a runner. We were delighted with Cotton Club’s debut effort on Thursday. He ran a sound race finishing 3rd behind two decent yardsticks. Cotton Club will improve plenty for that run and will give his owners loads of fun during the Summer months. Included makes her seasonal debut this evening in the 5:40 at Hexham. This was the only...

We were very pleased with Competition’s effort yesterday at Yarmouth. Beaten a nose in a photo finish whilst carried across the racecourse by the eventual winner. If we should have won, in the steward’s room I have no idea. That’s no concern for us and we won’t be losing sleep over it. We were just pleased with the performance from Competition. We have another runner this...
