A good day for readers on Saturday, 4 horses highlighted that all returned a profit. Two easy winners, 14-1 EW 2nd and a place return in the big race. We have a runner at Hereford today in the 12:20. Broughtons Admiral makes his hurdling debut and debuts for us at the same time. To complete the hat trick, this will also be our first runner with Alastair Ralph. Sam Twiston Davies takes the ride. ...

Competitive racing this afternoon up and down the country. The Lanzarote Hurdle “Kempton 2:40” will take some winning. This year’s renewal has a strong look to it. I wouldn’t like to call the winner and won’t do so, there’s much easier races to get involved with today. The 12:55 at Kempton looks between Secret Investor & Chef Des Obeaux. I slightly prefer ...

A quite week so far, we’ve not had any runners and won’t do so until the weather picks up a little. The going is heavy up and down the country. We only have West Of The Edge that runs through the mud, he ran recently though. A lot of trainers give their horses flu jabs in January, it makes horses feel a bit off for a few weeks. That’s better than a possible season ending slog on...

We were really pleased with Trigger Nichol’s 3rd place at Bangor-on-Dee on Thursday. As mentioned a few times, Trigger Nichol won’t be seen to his best until next season. He’s a big horse that’s still growing and a staying chaser in the making. We’ll likely give Trigger Nichol another run then put him away for this time next year. The weather conditions are rotten at...

We have our first runner of the year this afternoon at Bangor-on-Dee in the 2:50. Trigger Nichol takes his chance, Sam Twiston Davies take the ride. Trigger Nichol is big strong horse that we can’t wait to get over a fence this time next year. Anything he does over hurdles would be a massive bonus. His pedigree is top class, relatives are high class chasers. Hurdles will serve a purpose an...

Happy New year, I hope 2018 is prosperous for you and your family. Before looking forward, a quick look back at last year. In 2017 Value Racing Club had 61 runners. This resulted in the below: 11 winners 7 seconds 11 thirds 32 unplaced “we did have numerous 4th places but I’ve not counted these”. In total just over £93,000 in prize money was won. I put on Twitter &pou...

It was a shame to see Faugheen run no sort of race yesterday. I suppose Willie Mullins will be hoping he might have a bug that’s stopping his horses. The yard has had a lot of beaten favourites over the past few days. I wasn’t surprised by the performance of Faugheen and I hope a reason is found. However, I dare say it won’t be. I’ve mentioned numerous times in the past fe...

I hope you had a lovely Christmas Day, Santa found his way and the Turkey was tasty. We have a feast of racing this afternoon on what’s one of the best days of sport in the calendar year. Touchwood we can find a few winners to help pay for Christmas as per Cap Soleil 13-8 & Gold Present 8-1 that was highlighted on Saturday. I was impressed with Gold Present, he could be a big player in ...

We were very pleased with Trigger Nichol who ran at Ludlow on Wednesday. Trigger Nichol jumped like a stag on his hurdles debut but found everything happening too quickly. I know it’s a cliché, but this horse won’t be seen at his best until he goes over a fence. He’s a 3 mile chaser in the making as per his pedigree and relatives. Hurdles are a stepping stone. Today is th...

Everything that could go wrong for West Of The Edge did so in the past 2 weeks. The Kelso Borders National called off messed us up. We then had no choice but to run at Catterick yesterday. Unfortunately WOTE lost before the race even started. The going at Catterick was good ground, it was a barmy warm day. The race times we’re only 12 seconds above standard confirming quick ground. We knew ...

Ilovemints ran as we expected yesterday, the aim was to finish the race and she did so jumping 100 times better than Uttoxeter. The going was bottomless and Minty was never going to handle that. The run served a purpose though and we can now push on. Catterick bound today with West Of The Edge who runs in the 1:50. This race is very much a second thought. We planned for the Kelso Borders Nationa...

It looks like a busy end to the year for owners, it’s possible we could have 3 runners this week with the first one of them coming today. Ilovemints runs in the 2:05 at Ffos Las. Despite falling at Uttoxeter on hurdles debut, Ilovemints showed no ill effects and came out of the race fine. Ilovemints isn’t the first horse in the world to fall on jumping debut nor will she be the last. ...

I thought Western Ryder win at Cheltenham yesterday could be marked up despite him winning. The race couldn’t have worked out worse for Western Ryder, the front runners went a crawl. He’s the type of horse that needs a flat-out gallop from the word go. Western Ryder can travel sweetly off the back of a sound pace whilst quickens and stays strongly. He’ll be much better over 2m4f...

It’s the first day of the Cheltenham International meeting this afternoon. Small fields but competitive racing as you would expect. Not a huge amount stands out but I’ve had a couple of token bets. I was impressed with Western Ryder when he won last time out, the race looked a decent contest with some promising horses in behind. Western Ryder should be suited by a fast pace and looks...

Warwick & Newcastle have both been abandoned today. Thankfully, the snow has melted away and the International meeting starting at Cheltenham tomorrow shouldn’t have any problems going ahead. We had a runner at Southwell midweek where Newt didn’t take kindly to the kickback. The track was riding very deep and the kickback was bad as ever. Newt didn’t fancy it and came back c...

Kelso was abandoned so we didn’t get to run West Of The Edge on Sunday. I don’t know where we go with the horse at this stage, but we’ll go through the program book and work something out. We have a runner at Southwell today, Newt lines up in the 2:00. Southwell got the go ahead early this morning despite the snow and frost. The fibresand has been harrowed through the night to ...
