Our runner at Southwell on Tuesday, Ilovemints was unlucky not to grab a place. She was coming with her run but made a mess of two out and lost her chance. I’m sure she would have been third if not for the mistake. Loads of racing today with six meeting in the UK, the Royal Wedding also takes place so does the FA Cup Final. Something for everyone perhaps? York was interesting mid-week, Roa...

Leoncavallo was a very impressive winner on debut for us at Ludlow on Sunday. Leon won easily in a competitive race, he also broke the track record in the process. Leoncavallo was 5th in the Triumph hurdle a few years ago but lost his way a little. We were confident we could turn this horse around and get him back to his best with the way we do things. Leoncavallo looked a 145 rated hurdler on th...

We had a great stable morning at Alastair Ralph’s on Saturday. Alastair and his wife Kate, we’re great hosts serving a cooked breakfast on the lawn for owners. We then enjoyed watching Included & Newt work whilst caught up with our new Winter horse Stung For Cash who is on his holidays. Sam Twiston Davies & Charlie Hammond kindly both came to the yard and worked our horses. We...

Young Racal was a very impressive winner of the The Chester Vase on Wednesday. Trained by William Haggas, I loved the way this horse travelled through the race and showed a great attitude to go through a small gap whilst taking a bump in the process. Although the winning distance wasn’t huge, Young Rascal looked to have loads left in the tank. With a clearer run he would have won cosily. I ...

I didn’t do a blog on Saturday as we had a stable morning at Dr Newland’s with the owners of Leoncavallo & Henry Smith. Dr Newland is always good fun on these mornings and tells a few stories. We watched Leoncavallo & Henry Smith work on the gallops whilst our new purchase that I bought on Friday, Adams Park arrived at the yard. Adams Park was secured at the Newmarket sales f...

Willie Mullins claimed the Irish trainer’s championship quite comfortably in the end. Gordon Elliott just didn’t have the numbers to run at Punchestown. It's very hard to compete when Mr Mullins has upto 7 chances in one race! No doubt Gordon will be champion trainer at some point, however he might have to wait until Willie goes on his long-term holidays. No jumping until Saturday wit...

The Punchestown Festival keeps on giving, Faugheen rolling back the years was fantastic. He stayed every yard of the three-mile trip and won easy as you like. Willie Mullins said after the race, Faugheen might go chasing next season. It was a shame Samcro & Melon fell at the same hurdle yesterday, I was so looking forward to that battle. Thankfully both horses are fine. The bloody awful weath...

The racing from Punchestown so far has been nothing short of spectacular. We’ve had the Elliott & Mullins trainers championship battle that Mr Mullins will surely win now. Willie seems to be running everything in the yard, the pet cat must be getting worried! Paul Townsend on Al Boum Photo, and that final fence mishap. Who knows what the next three days will bring? Today at Punchestown...

The racing on Saturday made enjoyable viewing, Joe Farrell & Ballyoptic served up a thrilling finish to the Scottish National. Watching Moon Racer come back to winning ways was great. This was an excellent training effort by David Pipe. Moon Racer had every problem you could think of for the past two years and was nearly lost to colic last Summer. Over on the flat, Defoe was very impressive a...

A great day of racing this afternoon with something on offer for all. An excellent flat fixture at Newbury takes place that includes the Spring Cup. Up at Ayr, The Scottish Grand National & Champion Hurdle take place. It was a good day on here for readers on Wednesday, the strong message for Qazyna was spot on. Trained by Roger Varian, Qazyne won with any amount in hand. She’s held in h...

We had a great day Aintree on Saturday. Watching the Grand National, live from the roof top owners viewing area was brilliant. As was Broughtons Admiral effort in the last race. We we’re delighted with our horse who just got beat in a photo finish for 4th place. His owners we’re a whisker away from being in the winner’s enclosure. Broughtons Admiral goes on his holidays now, he&r...

It’s Grand National day, one of the most thrilling races ran anywhere. Let’s hope for a great race and all horses come home safe and sound. Bedrock rewarded EW support for us yesterday when 3rd at 50-1. He was like backing a 12-1 winner, two out I thought Bedrock was going to win. Min was just outstayed by Politologue in a ding dong finish. The result wasn’t surprising as Min was...

Might Bite was very impressive on day 1 of the Grand National Aintree meeting, there was never a moments worry for his backers. Might Bite jumped great, travelled very strongly and won as he liked. The win can be marked up in my opinion as Might Bite had a real war against Native River in the Gold Cup just 3 weeks ago. He’s a very very good horse. His odds of 10-11 looked generous before the...

It’s the first day of the Aintree Grand National meeting. Three days of top action that’s a bit more relaxed than Cheltenham. The going is soft and will take some getting. Horses with proven stamina over further could be the way to go from a punting point of view. I was sweet on Apple’s Shakira at Cheltenham, but she pulled hard and lost all chance of winning. There’s no d...

It’s been a quite week with most of the turf fixtures wiped out due to waterlogged ground. Some of the pictures racecourses have been put on social media have made interesting viewing, Stratford & Huntingdon are lakes! The Aintree Grand National meeting starts on Thursday of next week, the last thing we want is a heavy ground National. Let’s hope the weather picks up soon and stay...

Broughtons Admiral won nicely by 9 lengths for us and his owners at Hereford on Tuesday. Broughtons Admiral jumped and travelled strongly under Sam Twiston Davies. This was Broughtons Admiral's first career win and it was well deserved. The horse was very consistent on the flat “we didn’t own him then” he was never far away and placed in most runs. BA has taken to jumping well ...
