It doesn’t happen very often, but we came away from the recent Goffs DBS Doncaster sales with the two horses on our wish list. Both look well bought and of excellent value, they will run through the winter jumps season proper.

The first horse secured is called Greyed A.

Greyed A is a lovely looking grey gelding out of the top class sire Daylami, he’s a 5yo and stands approx. 16.2 hands. We secured this unexposed Irish “twice raced under rules” horse for £11,000.

Greyed A, ran in 5 PTP’s, all on heavy over three miles, his best effort was a 2nd at Kildorrery. After watching all of his replays it was pretty obvious Greyed A wasn’t quite getting home over three miles. He travelled like a nice horse but his stamina gave away from three out.

After gaining experience in PTP’s, Greyed A ran under rules in two maiden hurdles at Clonmel and Tipperary, both over two miles. Greyed A finished 3rd of 12 and 4th of 18 on soft ground, both races can be watched on the ATR website for free.

In each race Greyed A, bid to make all, Greyed A jumped lovely, fast and low and looked a natural.

In both races, from two out the other runners closed on our new horse and passed him, however jumping the last, Greyed A was staying on again and coming back at them whilst showing a lovely willing attitude. Greyed A was finding the trip of two miles on the sharp side, he’s crying out for two miles five on bad ground.

Greyed A is very well put together but still a bit leggy and weak behind, he’s far from the finished product as you would expect from a young Irish bred horse. However, with a summer of grass under his belt and allowed to grow, Greyed A should be a lovely prospect that will have no problem winning his maiden hurdle in the UK, whilst he’s already proven he can jump a fence in P2P races.

Greyed A will be trained by Dr Richard Newland. I’m making 20 shares available each worth 5%.

His syndicated purchase price is £550, “20, the number of shares divided by his purchase price” Training fees, race entries, insurance, plus all other costs until March 31st 2017, £1400.

Total share price until March 31st 2017 = £1950

The second horse purchased is called West Of The Edge.

West Of The Edge is an 8yo staying chaser / hurdler. He’s won £30,000 in prize money and won such races as the Lincolnshire National over 3 miles 4 furlongs on soft ground and more recently beat Royale Knight, trained by Dr Richard Newland on heavy ground. Royale Knight finished 6th in the Aintree Grand National whilst winning the Durham version twice.

I paid a bargain price of £14,000 for West Of The Edge.

West Of The Edge has run 34 times in his career and never fallen, he’s a fantastic jumper and stays all day long, the horse is totally unexposed over long distances and we think he wants four miles. The Lincolnshire National was won by 6 lengths, West Of The Edge forged clear jumping the last and could have gone round again.

Since coming over from Ireland in April 2015 West Of The Edge has run 16 times and not had a proper break. It’s no wonder since beating Royale Knight in a real slog of a battle, his form has dropped off, this horse needs a rest and some TLC.

West Of The Edge comes with the ideal profile that Dr Richard Newland, our trainer, improves by pounds. We will run this horse in all mini National races like the Scottish Borders National, the Yorkshire National and if we can improve him the Cheltenham Cross Country race could be on the agenda and the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter.

West Of The Edge will be our first long distance staying chaser and I’m really excited about him, he will be a lot of fun. I’m making 20 shares available each worth 5%

His syndicated purchase price is £700, “20, the number of shares divided by his purchase price.” Training fees, race entries, insurance, plus all other costs until March 31st 2017, £1400.

Total share price until March 31st 2017 = £2100
