It was a long week at the Newmarket sales but we got there in the end and walked away with three very nice horses.
The stunning 3yo filly Included was our first purchase, she’s impeccably bred and out of the top class family of Spanish Moon. Trained by Amanda Perrett on the flat, this 4 time raced filly won on her last start over one mile four despite being green as grass. Included stands at a huge 16.3 hands and is the most stunning looking animal I’ve seen, she’s a proper lady and takes your breath away.
How we secured Included for 30,000gns I’ll never know, we’ve already been offered a lot more than that since the sale. Included goes into training with Jamie Snowden and is potentially a class act.
The strong flat stayer Trafalgar Rock was also bought for 30,000gns, he also won last time whilst has only been out of the first three 6 times in his racing career. Trafalgar Rock has plenty of size and will have no problem jumping a fence. He’s rated 78 on the level and knows how to win, a tough hardy sort that loves to front run and looks like another very sound recruit. He goes into training with Dr Richard Newland.
I also purchased the strong travelling Kerrymerry, a 3yo colt that’s won twice this year on good to firm & soft ground. Kerrymerry would have fetched £25,000 plus all day long but he needs some time and TLC. The horse has run plenty of times this season and is showing signs of been jarred up. We’ll get him gelded and give Kerrymerry a good break, he could be the bargain buy of the week in time.
Great racing this afternoon all over the country whilst the Breeders Cup meeting also takes place.
I don’t have any real strong fancies but I have backed Aqalim EW “9-2” 2:00 Wetherby. The reason I’ve backed him is not because I think he’s a good thing or best horse in the race, it’s because I have doubts about his main rivals.
Rock On Ruby is the class act but will stay 3 miles? Grumeti looked out of love with the game before winning the Cesarewitch, it’s far from certain that horse will show a liking for going back over hurdles.
I would expect one of the above to flop, if that’s the case and Aqalim is fit whilst runs his normal race he should be in the first three at worse. EW at 9-2 looks a worth a go.
The other horse i've backed today is Sign Of A Victory “5-1” in the 2:50 at Ascot, I’ll take him to repeat last year’s win in this very race. It's likely been the target again for some time.
