There’s been many unlucky in running stories at Goodwood this week but it’s the same every year.

Finding a clear path up the rail is pretty much impossible but the same jockeys keep trying their luck. You would have thought running a few lengths further and coming wide would be the safer bet, but the same names keep sitting full of running with nowhere to go.

For my sins I’ve had couple of bets, Convey at 4-1 in the 2:35 & Muthmir 11-2 EW in the 3:45.

Convey trained by Sir Michael Stoute is held in the highest regard at home and works like a proper animal. He’s not been seen for a while due to a few niggles but is a horse with a huge reputation and might just be a Group 1 type in the making.

Convey is likely to improve for the run as he’s not been out since October 2014 so whatever the result do keep with him, however if reports are correct he should still run a big race.

Muthmir is a proper speed horse that might be able to break from the stalls and not see another rival. I’m glad he’s been dropped back to five furlongs, doesn’t settle over six and pulls his chance away.

The selection does carry a Group penalty but If Paul Hanagan can get him out of the stalls fast as the people coming through the channel tunnel he’ll hopefully take some catching. A few bookies are paying 4 places so shop around.
