It’s the start of the Epsom Derby meeting this afternoon, today it’s the turn of the ladies in the Oaks.

For what it’s worth, Maqsad EW would be my pick but she's far from certain to get the trip. Maqsad was impressive when winning the Pretty Polly Stakes over 1m2f showing a lot of speed. There’s stamina in the pedigree which gives hope, so we’ll see how she goes, priced at 6-1.

One of the notebook horses I mentioned on here runs at Carlisle in the 4:00, London Eye priced at 7-4. London Eye is crying out for this test of stamina, if the ground was good, I’d be all over the horse and would be confident in saying he would win.

Carlisle is riding heavy though and this throws a big spanner into the works. Your guess is good as mine if London Eye will handle the ground, he could easily bomb out. I think David Allan will likely bid to make all and turn this into a real test. If it doesn’t happen today, keep with London Eye, he’s a nice stayer in the making.
