We were very pleased with Kerrymerry 3rd place at Chelmsford on Thursday. Beaten just two lengths after 621 off the racecourse days was a cracking effort. This was Kerrymerry debut for us, he’ll improve mentally for the outing and will likely be seen jumping hurdles next time.
The Irish trainer’s championship is going to be settled one way or another this afternoon. Wicklow Brave winning the Irish Champion Hurdle put Willie Mullins into the lead, that looked near impossible a few weeks ago.
Gordon Elliott needs Apple's Jade to win the mares Champion Hurdle and hope Willie Mullins has a quiet day whilst avoids picking up any valuable place money. Apple's Jade will take a huge amount of beating, if you can get odds against snap it up.
It’s finals day at Sandown the last good jumps meeting of the season. Despite only 4 horses lining up the Bet365 Celebration Chase at 3:00 is a belter of a race. Champion Chase winner Special Tiara takes on the Arkle winner Altior. The Nicky Henderson novice is a warm favourite to keep his unbeaten chase record intact and prove he’s top draw.
The New One should go well in the 4:10 at Sandown, priced at 3-1.
The New One is a wonderful race horse, he gives his all every time and deserves to win another nice race. Last time out at Aintree, The New One jumped the last in front but was headed by the Champion Hurdle winner Buveur D’air and My Tent Or Yours who ran so well yesterday.
There isn’t anything of that calibre in today’s line up and providing this isn’t one race too many, a repeat of the Aintree effort should be good enough to see The New One go close.
