It was one run too many for Gran Maestro at Market Rasen on Saturday. Granny gave his all and held every chance jumping two out but the petrol tank was running on empty by this stage after a busy campaign plus being primed to the minute for the Summer Hurdle.

Gran Maesteo will now go on his holidays and come back next year over a fence, there won’t be many 131 rated hurdles novice chasing through the spring / summer months so it should be another very exciting season.

The horse has done his owners proud this season, finishing out of the first 3 once and winning the most prestigious race hurdle race of the summer season was a fantastic day that will live long in the memory.
