We have a runner at Huntingdon today in the 2:00, Competition makes his debut for us. I purchased Competition in a private deal in October last year. He looked the type of horse we could improve whilst had shown fair form in a couple of races.

Competition is big lad and doesn’t look like a flat horse. He was 2nd in a bumper on his debut but didn’t go jumping until over a year later. We’ve given the horse a nice break, 3 months turnout and a slow and steady build up.

This is a decent maiden hurdle, Gothic Empire & Jumping Jack have both ran to a rating of 115, The Twisler was very smart on the flat, peaked at 105 and taken well to hurdles. Humphrey Bogart was also very good on the level, 105 rated too. He was thrown in the deep end on jumps debut in the Dovecote, this was his first stat for 2 years and no doubt needed it. Humphrey Bogart ran on the flat last month finishing 5th in a Listed race.

Putting it all into perspective, Competition hit 65 on the flat but is now rated 58. If this was a flat race, Competition would have the best part of 40lb to find and couldn’t win.

We’ll learn plenty about Competition this afternoon, he should be treble the odds he is but will hopefully show ability and run well.
