I’ve had a decent bet today on a Michael Appleby trained runner that I think can win a really nice prize at some point and develop into a Group 2 horse at least. The horse in question is Danzeno, 2:00 Newcastle priced at 7-4.

Danzeno is the yards stable star and a horse I’ve mentioned on here a few times, he’s held in very high regard and has some top form in the book. Danzeno won this race last year and I think he will take the beating once again this time around.

This speedy type ran a cracker on seasonal debut over five furlongs, a trip that’s a furlong short for him. Saying that Danzeno was only beat under two lengths and reports suggested beforehand he would come on for the run, the likes of Hot Streak, G Force & Goldream were all behind him so it certainly wasn’t a bad effort.

With that run under his belt and a return to six furlongs for a race that’s been targeted, everything looks primed for a big run. I thought Danzeno still looked green in 2014 as he tended to shift left during the final furlong and threw away winning opportunities, there was no sign of this at Haydock so it’s quite possible the horse has matured and improved over the winter.

Watchable & Mattmu look the dangers, I put Watchable up as a selection in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and he rewarded EW support at nice odds beaten 4 lengths. That was a cracking effort but I get the feeling that race was the long term plan and connections are just running today as the horse is clearly in good form. This race also comes quick whilst Watchable still hasn’t ran to the same RPR Danzeno has.

Mattmu needs to bounce back from a below par effort last time out but the Tim Easterby yard are in grand form so it quite possible he can. Just like Watchable Mattmu would need a career best to beat Danzeno and hasn’t matched his figures.

As for the other runners I would be surprised if anything else can get involved and it would take the above three mentioned to run under par. I’m keen on Danzeno and hope he can for fill his early promise and get the job done today. If he doesn’t it’s beans and toast for the next month!

In other races, Tanzeel 2:35 Newcastle looks to have a good chance on form and has been working well at home, the 7-1 EW looks fair in a race that will take a bit of winning. Spirit Raiser 5:10 Newmarket “11-4” is well fancied by his yard and looks to have Angel Vision to beat who is bidding to bounce back and has worked well since.
