It’s been a busy week, I purchased three horses at the Doncaster sales on Tuesday, one for us and two for Dr Newland. I’d been working on the sale for quite some time and had spoken with plenty of trainers, jockeys and owners in the build up to the sale. We put a huge amount of work into any sale, weeks of study, watching race replays and speaking with many people as we can. We don’t just hand over money to our trainers and say go get us something.

2016 Triumph Hurdle 5th, Leoncavallo was secured for Value Racing Club. This horse is a fantastic recruit. He’s a classy animal that will be a proper Saturday horse for us. We’ll send him chasing later in the year. Leoncavallo reached 145 rated over hurdles, he could be very smart over a fence. Stole The Show & Artful Artist we’re the other two horses secured.

We have two runners this afternoon, one at Cheltenham and the other at Uttoxeter.

Broughtons Admiral is taking on the mighty Apple’s Shakira in the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial.

This race has been a small field for the past few years, for this reason we popped an entry in. As it stands six horses take their chance and prize money goes down to that position.

Broughtons Admiral ran fine on his debut over hurdles, he’s likely going to need further in time. Today’s race was a nice opportunity for owners to have a great afternoon on a superb day of racing. This race will have two races taking place at the same time. Apple’s Shakira will take the world of beating, Elixir De Nutz & Look My Way will be fighting it out for 2nd place.

Our horse will be fighting it out for 4th, that would be a great run if we could snatch that position. Anything better would be fantastic. Broughtons Admiral will love the stiff finish and can hopefully picks up some prize money and gain more experience.

Over at Uttoxeter, Trigger Nichol runs in the 1:45. As mentioned numerous times, Trigger Nichol is a 3-mile chaser in the making. This time next year he’ll be seen at his best. The race is Whiskey In The Jar’s to lose. Trigger Nichol should run ok but likely find things happening a bit quick. Our sponsored jockey Charlie Hammond takes the ride.

I’ve backed L’Ami Serge at 3-1 in the 3:15 Doncaster, he’s well treated over a fence and schooled well I hear. Over at Lingfield in the 3:45, Al Mustashar has always worked like a nice horse but failed to show it on the racecourse. He comes with risks but hopefully the gelding procedure might have worked. 5-1 EW.
