Excellent racing this afternoon, a fantastic card at Newmarket whilst Newcastle has their big day of the year with the Northumberland Plate taking place.

Couple of unoriginal thoughts and an EW poke.

Logician will hopefully bounce back to form in the 2:40. He missed the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot because of the soft ground, good to firm at Newmarket will be much more to his liking. The run was needed on seasonal debt, I’d hope we see Logician back to his best today. Even money looks fair enough.

Royal Crusade EW at 5-1 I’ve had a few quid on. 5:15 Newmarket.

On paper, it’s the Charlie Appleby second string, but the return to seven furlongs will be ideal whilst reports suggest the horse has come right back to himself since returning from Meydan. Royal Crusade has little to find on form and hopefully can cause a bit of an upset in an excellent race.

A mark of 85 might underestimate Sayyida another Charlie Appleby horse that runs in the 3:50. After winning nicely on the Rowley mile, Sayyida was going to run in a Group 3 race over in France but didn’t run because of soft ground. If connections think she’s Group Class, Sayyida must have a great chance off 85 in this race.

It’s another very good race, Franklet is unexposed but I’m with the Appleby horse at 13-8.
