I’m pleased to say we purchased a new horse on Tuesday at the Goffs Doncaster sales.

Our new recruit is called ALDRIN, a 4yo by New Approach, he’ll go into training with David Pipe. Aldrin will run through the Spring and Summer jumps season but we’ll likely bid to break his maiden tag on the flat at some point too.

I’ve been working with David Pipe on the Doncaster sales for the past few weeks. Aldrin was our number one pick and we're delighted to secure him for £22,000. He looks outstanding value at that price. I’m adamant if this horse went through a flat sale at Newmarket, he would have fetched nearer £40,000.

This is our first horse with Mr Pipe.

Aldrin, was owned by Godolphin on the flat and trained by Charlie Appleby. He raced twice for the boys in blue and holds strong form.

On debut, Aldrin finished 4th at Doncaster beaten four lengths over 7 furlongs, this distance  would have been on the sharp side for Aldrin. It was five lengths back to the 5th placed runner.

Next time out, the 3rd placed horse at Doncaster “Hilldale” won, the 2nd placed horse “Zwayyan” won and the winner “Raven’s Corner” ran for the first-time last week and finished 2nd at Meydan!

The above 3 horses are now pushing 90 rated on the flat.

NB: Hilldale cost £67,000gns, Zwayyan cost £380,000gns and Ravens’s Corner cost £120,000gns.

On his 2nd start Aldrin lined up at Epsom over one mile two furlongs. Few horses handle Epsom due to its undulations and tight bends, Aldrin didn’t have any problems though, this suggests he’s very versatile and stands him in good stead for National Hunt racing.

Aldrin finished 3rd at Epsom but should have won, he was beaten two lengths. His jockey made a sweeping move 7 furlongs from home and sent Aldrin clear. Aldrin was sent on far too quickly, he very nearly held on but got caught in final few strides and lost two places.

The 4th placed horse was 80 rated at Epsom and won next time out.

Timeform comments on the horse are below:

Showed plenty when fourth of 11 to Ravens Corner at Doncaster. Upped markedly in trip next time and better than result suggests. Asked to make effort earlier than ideal and headed inside final furlong. Remains unexposed with good potential.

Godolphin are scaling down their string worldwide and keeping mainly Group and Listed horses. Aldrin doesn’t have a flat rating yet due to only running two times, we think he’s ran to a mark of 81 / 82 plus on both occasions.

Aldrin is still a colt so we’ll geld him in the next few days, gelding a horse brings out further improvement. We aim to be up and running over hurdles in May. There won’t be many such unexposed horses with his potential running through the Spring and Summer months.
