It’s one those days where 6 or 7 horses stand out, normally it ends up with egg on your face but we’ll give it a go and stick with some decent priced selections.

Top Notch Tonto 5:00 Doncaster was mentioned last week when running in the QEII on Champions Day, there was no obvious pace in the race so connections tried a change of tactics and bid to make all, unfortunately it didn’t work as Top Notch Tonto didn’t like been out in front and had too much made of him.

The horse hasn’t quite recaptured last season’s form but this race is a big drop in class whilst his main rivals won’t like the going. Providing the Brian Ellison trained horses runs to something like it's ability Top Notch Tonto should be seen in a better light this afternoon, priced at 4-1 he can be backed EW.

Over at Aintree in the 2:30 Kingsmere is a horse that’s won me a lot of money over the years, including when dotting up at Cheltenham back in April at 12-1. The horse is best fresh and doesn’t take a huge amount of racing but clearly has a big engine on a going day.

I would prefer today’s race to be over 3 miles and maybe the ground a bit better than good to soft but first time out is the time to catch Kingsmere, the booking of Richard Johnson seems to suggest connections mean business.

This race will take a fair bit of winning, Spirit Of Shankly has reportedly been working very well and is well fancied but at 10-1 Kingsmere is worth a few quid EW in a tough race.

At a shorter price Son Du Berlais “6-4” 3:35 Chepstow was hugely impressive on British debut for Nicky Henderson, the horse never came off the bridle and achieved a high RPR.

This is a decent renewal of Persian War plenty of winners should come from the race, however Son Du Berlais is held in decent regard whilst connections are looking to take advantage of his novice status that runs out shortly.

I’m at the Newmarket horses in training sales next week with Grand National winning trainer Dr Richard Newland in a bid to secure another horse for Value Racing Club.

If you would like to get involved in proper horse racing ownership for a one off cost with nothing else to pay for the entire racing season please don’t hesitate to get in touch, just a handful of shares remain.
