The Nunthorpe Stakes at York this afternoon could be one of the races of the year. Battaash has looked top class in his starts this season and beaten all before him. However, he’s not met the superstar filly from America, Lady Aurelia.

The race has the makings of a classic that could live long in the memory. Throw in the likes of Marsh & Profitable who would be mopping up Group 1 races if Lady Aurelia & Battaash wasn’t around, this could be quite special.

It’s a close call but I’m siding with Lady Aurelia. Her efforts at Royal Ascot have been explosive. The Wesley Ward trained filly must prove she can handle racecourses away from Ascot but there shouldn’t be any reason why she can’t.

Before the big race of the day, I’ve had a few quid on Dal Harraild in the Lonsdale Cup at 2:25.

Dal Harraild could be a smart stayer in the making. He’s the un-exposed horse in the race over two miles and I hope the distance could bring out plenty of improvement. 9-2 EW. I’ll also have my normal £5ew on High Jinx who will pop up again at some point.
