Gran Maestro makes his seasonal debut in the 4:25 at Sandown this afternoon Will Kennedy rides.
This race was originally later on the card but it’s been switched so Channel 4 can show live coverage of A P McCoy's last ever ride as a pro jockey. It’s a nice bit of history to say we stood in the parade ring when Mr McCoy ended his fantastic career.
The entire day will all be about A P and rightly so, I hope he can go out on a winner but not in our race!
It’s Gran Maestro’s first run for 210 days so he might be a little ring rusty but is plenty fit enough for the race. Granny did pretty well towards the back end of the season but didn’t hit the ground running. It took GM a few runs to get the hang over hurdles but he did so and proved a nice consistent horse.
We hope there’s more improvement to come over the summer however this isn’t an easy starting point and the trip is bit on an unknown. Will Kennedy & Gran Maestro will be doing their very best to spoil the A P McCoy party so fingers crossed for a nice effort.
