We have a rare bumper runner at Catterick this afternoon, Trigger Nichol makes his debut for us in the 3:35. Our sponsored jockey Charlie Hammond takes the ride.

Trigger Nichol was a private purchase and didn’t cost a lot of money. He’d shown bits of ability in his two starts for previous connections. The horse cost 40k as a store. This isn’t at all surprising as Trigger Nichol comes from a very good family. He’s a young horse that will improve with age as his pedigree suggests.

Trigger Nichol is a good-looking lad that has plenty of size, he’ll likely be a 3 mile chaser in a couple of years.

Bumper races are just about impossible to work out, there’s no way of knowing what you’re up against bar the horses with previous form. I’m To Blame is owned by the Rooney’s, trainer Keith Dalgleish has plenty of bumper winners. I’m hearing I’m To Blame is a nice horse.

On form shown so far, Lough Ryn is the most solid. His 4th place at Nass has worked out well. The three that finished in front of him are all nice horses.

Our trainer, Dr Newland has never trained a bumper winner but runs very few horses in the sphere. It’s very much a learning curve for us this afternoon, Trigger Nichol will require further but we’re happy where we are at this stage, and like him for the future.
