Despite having just, the one runner this week quite a few things have been happening this end. Leoncavallo was a good 2nd on his chase debut, it was 30 lengths back to the 3rd place horse. Leon ran to round 140 but was outstayed by the Nicky Henderson horse as we thought he might be over 2m4.

Leoncavallo isn’t the biggest horse in the world and isn’t bred for chasing. I’d be worried to see him jumping out of soft ground at the likes of Sandown or Cheltenham. We’ll decide in a week or two, but we might stick too hurdles and run in the big two-mile races.

I visited two potential new trainers this week plus we sold Ilovemints at the Doncaster sales on Wednesday. News on the new trainer will be given next month, I have a few things to decide first.

We have some very good flat racing this afternoon, the conditions won’t make finding winners easy especially at Ayr where the ground is heavy. We’ve not running horses at Uttoxeter tomorrow for this reason.

I’ve bid to find a couple of horses with proven soft ground form and come up with the below.

1:45 Newbury – Mountain Angel 4-1
4:25 Ayr – Contango 5-2

Both of the above should hopefully run well.

Elsewhere, Coup De Gold 4:05 Newbury was going nicely on debut before clipping heels and nearly coming down. He recovered and did very well to finish fifth. It’s impossible to know what your up against in such a race but Coup De Gold might be worth a look.

Hameem could be the short priced good one of the day, if there’s such a thing. 5:00 Newmarket. Dubai Icon, 8:15 Wolverhampton is held in fair regard. He's still green but has improved a lot from his debut I hear. One for the notebook win or lose.
