It’s been a fantastic week for Value Racing Club and the owners of Mountain Rescue and Milrow.
Mountain Rescue won a very good race at Kempton on Monday whilst yesterday at Perth, Milrow hacked up by 16 lengths hard held in the juvenile hurdle under Sam Twiston Davies.
The long journey to Perth was well worth it, it was my first visit to the racecourse and it’s a lovely place. Gorgeous scenery plus your very well looked after. I would go back anytime and hope we have another runner in the not too distant future at the racecourse.
Yesterday’s race looked like Milrow’s last chance of winning another juvenile this season. Thankfully Milrow read the script perfectly, encourged on by a few words from his owners when we visited him beforehand in the stable block.
Milrow was excellent and I’m delighted we got another win with this horse. What Milrow lacks in size he makes up in heart, he’s such a genuine horse and so easy to deal with.
Milrow ran out an easy winner and never looked like getting beat, his jumping was excellent and he never came off the bridle for the duration. We hoped he would be in the first 3 at worse beforehand but didn’t expect to win as he did. We’ve learned what conditions the horse needs however, I’m not sure what he beat yesterday as the newcomers maybe didn’t run their race but you can only beat what’s in front of you.
We have a few decisions to make with Milrow in the coming weeks, we bought him privately for juvenile summer hurdles and it’s very much a case of job done. It’s possible we might start the process again and send Milrow to the sales but nothing has been decided yet.
Whatever we decide Milrow has given us a huge amount of fun and he didn’t cost a lot of money in the scheme of things. The visit to Perth will go down as one of my favourite days of racing, it was a great day and been a great week with 2 winners on the board.
