It’s been a very good week from a punting punt of view at Royal Ascot. Two 7-1 winners plus Daahyeh at 5-1 yesterday and Japan at 6-4.
We then had the 2nd & 3rd in the Duke Of Edinburgh stakes priced at 9-1 & 6-1. Ben Vrackie should have been the icing on the cake. He was a bit slow away and just failed to get up, half a stride after the line he was nearly a length in front. Very unlucky not to collect on him but the EW money was won as it was on Fujaira Prince.
Over 20pts up at Royal Ascot is super week, for that reason I’m going steady today and banking a nice few quid.
Not many Aidan O’Brien horses win on debut, this makes Lope Y Fernandez the obvious selection in the Chesham Stakes at 2:30. Lope Y Fernandez was impressive at the Curragh winning with any amount in hand. The race was only 15 days ago but Lope Y Fernandez will have improved and should go well at odds of 6-4.
I’ve had EW bet on Happy power "8-1" in the Jersey Stakes at 3:05. This race might come a bit quick but his win against older horses at York reads well.
The Diamond Jubilee is one of the best races of the week. It’s great to see Charlie Appleby letting Blue Point take his chance after winning the King’s Stand on Tuesday. If in the same form, he’ll run another huge race but maybe the extra furlong is against him?
I’ve backed City Light EW at 8-1. City Light was just pipped in the race last year and handles all going. The horse has been saved for this race and warmed up with a very good second at Maisons-Laffitte in April. That form has worked out well with the winner going in again next time. City Light will finish the race strongly, he’s a hold up type but will need a bit of luck in running.
Bound For Nowhere in the same race at 16-1 EW will give it a good go from the front and could reward EW money now the ground is drying up.
