Champions Day at Ascot made good viewing and provided plenty of good entertainment. Solow confirmed he’s the best miler around when landing the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth stakes. The win was Solow 9th on the bounce and he’ll apparently be kept in training and head to Dubai next year.

The 2nd placed horse was Belardo who I mentioned on the previous weekend update. Belardo is a horse that I’ve followed off a cliff this season but for whatever reason he’s proved disappointing. I got a few quid back when he was 3rd last weekend at a nice price but nearly fell of my chair when he rattled home from a hold up ride to finish 2nd at 33-1, 66-1 was around earlier in the day.

Maybe that’s the way to ride the horse from the rear and put him to sleep, either way it looks like I’ll have to follow him for a bit longer now.

I was delighted to see Danzeno finish 3rd in the Champion Sprint and prove he’s a very good horse. Danzeno, did the best of the older runners and deserved to pick up some nice prize money for his connections, he could really come into his own as a 5yo.

A bit of rain has finally arrived overnight, touch wood it will keep falling for 24 hours at least as the quick going is holding up the National Hunt horses. A beginners chase was ran at Exeter yesterday with £8000 up for grabs. Just two horses lined up due to the ground been good to firm.

Updates have not been regular as normal of late due to the upcoming Newmarket horses in training sales. Homework is not far off completed now and a final shortlist of horses were interested in will be drawn up in the next few days. The midnight oil has burnt for the last three weeks but I’m hopeful we have some nice types to go out and have bit’s of info that others haven’t.

Good racing at Newmarket this afternoon.

Knife Edge priced at 7-4 and trained by Marco Botti lines up in the 3:45. This son of Zoffany is the best 2yo in the yard whilst the form of his debut win has worked out well. I know connections are hopeful Knife Edge can make it two from two today in what looks a decent race.
