Ayr’s three-day big flat meeting of the year sees the feature race take place this afternoon at 3:50, The William Hill Ayr Gold Cup. 25 runners take their chance over 6f with £124,500 to the winner. It’s a fantastic prize, somebody will be going home very happy later today.

I thought Wasaayef would take a bit of beating in the 2:10 at Newmarket but there’s been plenty of money for the Roger Varian runner, Queen Deanerys. The horses have flipped flopped in the market and Queen Deanerys has been supported into odds on.

Looking at the form of both horses, Wasaayef beat Alpen Rose last time out, that horse has since finished 3rd in a Group 2. Queen Deanerys was second on debut, beaten by Cloak Of Spirits, she came 6th of 9 when favourite at Doncaster last week.

On paper Wasaayef should be the favourite, she does have to give 6lb to Queen Deanerys, but the form looks stronger. I’ve had a few quid on Wasaayef at 7-4 but I’m worried about the money for Roger Varian runner who could have improved plenty judging by the support for her.

Over at Wolverhampton in the 7:50, I’m told Ya Hayati is a nice horse. William Buick comes for this one ride. Ya Hayati works to 90 ish at home, if he doesn’t run green and is clued up, a repeat of his homework should be good enough to win this race.

Like all first-time out runners, the lack of experience could result in not much of an effort. Ya Hayati is one for the notebook win or lose, he’s considered smart. Current odds are 7-4 but fair chance that could shorten.
