I was hoping to highlight a Cheltenham Festival antepost bet at double figure odds, the horse in question was due to run this afternoon but for whatever reason wasn't declared. I expected him to win today and odds more than half for Cheltenham, we’ll have to hold fire for the moment but watch this space.
The feature race at Newcastle is the Eider Chase, I don’t see any reason why last year’s winner Wyck Hill can’t go very close again despite carrying 8lb more this time around. The David Bridgwater trained horse had a nice prep run over hurdles last time out and ran vey well, this was also his first start for 9 months.
Priced at 9-1 with four places on offer for this marathon trip I hope Wyck Hill can reward EW support at least in a race that will be a proper stamina test.
Over at Kempton in the 2:35 “Betbright Chase” I’m keen to take on God’s Own who might just struggle on the soft ground, Irish Saint & Melodic Rendezvous should pick up the pieces if God’s Own does find it hard work but I’m also struggling to choose between the pair.
Melodic Rendezvous gets 7lb from Irish Saint whilst has started his chasing career in fair style but I’m not sure how much the horse has to give over a fence as he’s a latecomer to chasing at the age of 9.
With the Jeremy Scott yard not quite firing on all cylinders I’m just learning towards Irish Saint priced at 2-1 but it’s a close call.
