Great racing today and thank goodness Haydock goes ahead after a further 25mil of rain overnight. The ground is described as heavy.
It will be a real war at Haydock where stamina will win the day, we could see plenty of surprise results. The feature race is the Betfair Chase at 3:00.
2015 Gold Cup winner Coneygree makes his comeback after injury, trainer Mark Bradstock must have the horse not far off full fitness if he’s to have a crack at the million-pound bonus. It’s asking a lot of Coneygree this afternoon especially with his from the front running style, if he’s a gallop short he’ll be found out at the business end of the race.
I hope Coneygree wins or at least shows he holds all of his old ability.
From a betting point of you Seeyouatmidnight looks a big price at 11-2. The Sandy Thomson stable star stays much further, is proven on the ground and won’t lose the race through fitness. I don’t think for a minute Seeyouatmidnight is on par with the likes of Cue Card & Coneygree but this ground will be a big leveller. My heart says Coneygree but my head says Seeyouatmidnight could out run his odds.
I’ve heard Vaniteux, 3:15 Ascot has done very well over the summer and looks to have improved again. He won’t lose the race through fitness and with Nicky Henderson fresh from his 4 winners yesterday he’ll do for me at the odds of 5-2.
