It’s the first day of the York Ebor meeting, the going is good to soft.

The feature event on day one and best race of the entire meeting is the Group 1 Juddmonte stakes at 3:40.

This race could be the matchup of the season providing Gleneagles is allowed to take his chance on softer ground than ideal. I’ve always been a believer top class flat horses handle a bit of cut however I have a feeling trainer Aiden O’Brien will pull the horse out. Either way I still expect Golden Horn to win but let’s hope Gleneagles runs.

York is a tricky meeting for punting so I prefer backing at bigger prices in a bid to find one nice winner at the meeting. I’ve had two bets this afternoon.

Firstly I’ve backed Dream Mover EW at 12-1 in the 2:30.

I was impressed with this Marco Botti colt at Nottingham, the horse won with any amount in hand whilst the going was good to soft so today’s conditions will be fine. This race is a big step up in class but the price looks a little bit big.

The second horse I’ve had a few pounds on is Noble Silk EW in the 4:20, odds of 9-1. This consistent stayer always runs a fair race in these tough long distance handicaps whilst I like the jockey booking of Graham Lee.

Noble Silk races handy just what you need at York whilst stays further, something that will be required if the going is on the softer side.
