I was hoping to see a brilliant performance from Treve yesterday but she failed to deliver and could only box on for 3rd place in the Prince of Wale’s Stakes. The French filly looked uneasy on the firmer going and quite possibly looked after herself. Connections informed she’s likely to go back up in trip next time but it’s possible she’s not quite retained all of her ability as a 4yo.

Day 3 of Royal Ascot, Ladies day, feature race is the Gold Cup.

Leading Light is the obvious winner and likely will win, however odds of 8-11 are not tempting. There looks to be other options with EW value to be had in the race, next horse priced at 7-1.

I’ve taken but of a punt and had a small EW bet on Simenon 25-1, 2nd in this race last year behind Estimate. Simenon didn’t seem to enjoy travelling the world of late whilst disappointed at Ascot last time out but that was on soft ground. Given a nice break and back on a sound surface he might just run into a place if returning to form.

I'm quite keen on the chances of Cannock Chase in the Tercentenary Stakes 3:05, however odds of 9-4 are again short enough. I do think the horse is open to a fair bit more of improvement though and expect it to go well.
