It was nice to see both of yesterdays selections get the job done, admittedly they weren’t the biggest of prices “7-4 & 11-10 but winners are winners and it paid for the Friday night Chinese. Tasleet is worth keeping with going forward, the horse looked to win with plenty in hand whilst another furlong could bring out more improvement.

We’re off to Market Rasen today for their big day of the year as we have Gran Maestro running in the prestigious Summer Hurdle.

Having a runner in such a race is what were in the game for, one of my aims at Value Racing Club is to take on the big boys but at fraction of the cost. Gran Maestro has been a great purchase for us, we paid £11,000 for the horse and he’s won that back in prize money whilst only been out of the first three once in all of his 9 starts for his owners.

Today’s race is a huge test and a really good renewal of the Summer Hurdle, trainer John Ferguson looks to hold all the aces with his two classy ex flat horses Buckwheat & Commissioned. Both have taken to jumping really well and could just be a bit better than everybody else.

Throw in Hurricane Hollow plus the Coral Cup 6th placed horse Hammersly Lake and Manhattan Swing this race is going to take some winning.

I’m sure Gran Maestro will run his normal game race but he might just find the trip on the sharp side, however our lad will gallop from start to finish and won’t stop. Prize money goes down to 6th place, if Gran Maestro can finish in one of those spots that will have been a fantastic effort.

The race after ours is the Betfred Summer Plate, I like Lost Legend at the price of 16-1 EW. The horse was 2nd in this race last year and looks to have another decent chance at big odds. The selection has been running well over much further of late but not getting home, the drop back in trip looks ideal and I think he’ll out run his big odds.

Away from Market Rasen Venus Marina should go well for the in form yard of Chris Wall, 5:40 Lingfield. Unlucky last time out when finding trouble in running, she can be backed EW 4-1.
