Wednesday 17th June 2015 - Royal Ascot Day 2

Gleneagles won the big race on day one of Royal Ascot and secured his third Group 1 victory in taking style. It will be interesting to see where connections go next with the horse, a potential showdown with Queen Anne winner Solow would be very exciting.

Ryan Moore went on and completed a 54-1 treble and already looks a shoe in for the top jockey at the meeting. Muthmir & Steady Pace rewarded EW support for us, both were beat no distance at all, close but no cigar.

The first race on Day 2 is the Group 3 Jersey Stakes, I’ve gone through it a few times but keep coming back to Ivawood who's ran Gleneagles fairly close a couple of times. Backing a 15-8 shot in a 16 runner race is far from ideal but he should take a bit of beating and was nominated by his jockey & trainer as the yards best chance of the meeting.

The Duke of Cambridge Stakes 3:40 also has a short priced favourite, the Sir Michael Stoute trained Integral. The race looked a good opportunity for an EW bet as the second favourite is priced at 6-1. Unfortunately as normal with 8 runner races we have a withdrawn horse so no proper EW terms.

However, Integral should be another winner for Ryan Moore but I can’t get involved at the price of 10-11.

The Feature race on Day 2 is the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes “Group 1”. This looks wide open and cases can be made for the entire field.

I’ve had a few pounds EW on the Japan trained horse Spielberg at 10-1.

Connections have booked Christophe Soumillion rather than his regular jockey who wouldn’t know Royal Ascot so that’s a plus point. Spielberg’s form is good as anything in this race, he’s beaten the top class Gentildonna and will love today’s good to firm ground. If the horse has settled in nicely and handles the preliminaries his price offers a bit of EW value. He's an unknown quantity but has rock solid form in the book.

The last two races are real pin stick jobs, our friend Fort Bastion runs in the 5:00 but looks up against it at this level.

It’s a very tough day for finding winners, Ivawood and few pounds EW on Spielberg for me. Maybe the Ivawood, Integral double could work if that’s your thing.
