The first day of Royal Ascot is arguably the best day of racing during the entire meeting with three outstanding Group 1 races, Queen Anne Stakes, King’s Stand Stakes & St James’s Palace. I’ve not seen a better day of flat racing for a long time if ever.

The Benzema / Argentina 190-1 World Cup bet got off to a great start and now trades at 24-1 on the exchange. Benzema scored two but it was frustrating he wasn’t credited with the 2nd French goal. Benzema’s shot hit the post the keeper then fumbled the ball over the line, given as an OG.

I’ve backed two horses at Royal Ascot, the first selection is Adday EW at 6-1 in the 3:05. The William Haggas trained horse did us a favour when winning on debut, I wrote he was held in very high regard.

Adaay also won on his 2nd start in good style and is the yards best 2yo, today’s race will require more improvement whilst take a lot of winning but I know connections like Adday and think he’s v smart. You can’t go crazy in a race of this nature but 6-1 EW looks fair.

The other horse I’ve backed is Kingman at even money. He was a little unlucky in the English 2000gns, pace collapsed in front of him, jockey James Doyle was in front sooner then he would have liked. The partnership made no mistake next time when winning the Irish version in the style of a high class horse.

Today’s main danger is Night of Thunder who won the 2000gns, however I think the Ascot track will suit Kingman more than his main rival whilst Doyle will hold on to Kingman for a bit longer this afternoon.

I’m fairly sure the race is between the two of them, even money is shorter than I normally bet but happy to take smaller odds at a meeting that’s hard to find winners at.
