It’s Irish Grand National day over at Fairyhouse this afternoon. or maybe we should be calling it The Gigginstown Stud Grand National? Gigginstown are responsible for 14 of the 24 runners lining up in today’s feature race.

I have no interest in the race or who wins due to the number of Gigginstown horses that run. It’s a crazy scenario and shouldn’t be allowed, although no rules have been broken. Fourteen horses all in the same ownership, that’s over half of today’s field.

I have no doubt many of the horses lining up are doing so in a bid to secure the trainers title for Gordon Elliott. I’ve mentioned before there should be a cap put in place for the amount of horse’s, trainers can run in this type of race. That rule should be the same for the English Grand National too.

It won’t happen though and all it’s doing is denying the smaller trainers / owners a chance of having their big day out.

Nothing stands out from a punting point of view today, so much racing takes places on a Bank Holiday. It’s a watching brief for me.
