Its Champions day at Ascot, outstanding racing with huge prize money up for grabs. The highlight of the meeting could be the Solow Vs Gleneagles match up but it would come as no surprise if Gleneagles was withdrawn once again due to a bit of cut in the ground.
I’ve looking forward to the Champion Sprint at 1:20, Twilight Son & Muhaarar are the obvious two but I would like to see Danzeno run a big race whilst conditions looks perfect for the Ed Walker trained Lightning Moon.
Lightning Moon looked a potential superstar last year but for whatever reason hasn’t quite sparkled in his two runs this season. Everything looks spot on for today though and I wouldn’t be surprised if Ed Walker has worked his magic and got the horse spot on for this. Priced at 25-1 Lightning Moon looks worth a small EW bet whilst the same can be said about Danzeno at 18-1.
The Ebor winner Litigant is a fascinating contender in the Long Distance Cup at 12:45. The Joseph Tuite trained horse has apparently improved a good 10lbs since his York victory and could be unexposed. The race will take a lot of winning but 8-1 looks ok.
Elsewhere a good meeting at Market Rasen takes place, Pain Au Chocolat now trained by Harry Skelton could be very interesting on chase debut. I know previous trainer Alan King rated the horse v highly.
Old favourite Kingsmere makes his seasonal comeback in the 3:50 at Ffos Las, Kingsmere isn’t getting any younger now but first time out is the time to catch him.
I’m off to Dr Newlands’s yard early in the morning with the owners of Ebony Express who are having their stable morning. It will be a early start but hopefully the weather stays dry.
