A good day for readers on Saturday, 4 horses highlighted that all returned a profit. Two easy winners, 14-1 EW 2nd and a place return in the big race.

We have a runner at Hereford today in the 12:20. Broughtons Admiral makes his hurdling debut and debuts for us at the same time. To complete the hat trick, this will also be our first runner with Alastair Ralph. Sam Twiston Davies takes the ride.

We purchased Broughtons Admiral for 18,000gns at the Newmarket sales. We liked his profile, consistent on the level and hoped he could be the type that might be better suited by hurdles. Broughtons Admiral wouldn’t be the quickest, however he kept staying on in his races suggesting he might be better suited by a trip.

Juvenile hurdle races are normally a little unpredictable, despite all the schooling at home you never quite know how horses will jump in public for the first time. If this was a flat race Broughtons Admiral couldn’t beat the likes of Sable Island & Romanor, they were both close to 20lb better on the flat.

This looks an open race, Marettimo has already ran to a rating of 109, Cosy Club placed twice in Ireland whilst High Or Never & Spirit Of Rome have shown fair promise.

I’m sure Broughtons Admiral will improve plenty for the experience. We’ll see how we go and hope for a nice debut effort.
