Golden Horn made the Derby picture a little clearer yesterday with an impressive win in the Dante, always moving well at the rear of the field the John Gosden trained horse moved up stylishly and soon put the race to bed when asked to go by William Buick.

Golden Horn isn’t actually entered in the Epsom feature but surely connections will supplement him? This year’s renewal doesn’t look a strong contest and Golden Horn would likely take the beating based on yesterday’s performance.

I thought we were rather unlucky not to have a nice winner with Fort Bastion who lost all winning chance when he missed the break. Despite this Fort Bastion made up loads of ground in the final furlong but used himself up getting there, if breaking normally he would have gone very close. We finished fifth in the end beaten just 4 lengths but lost double that distance at the start, thankfully Paddy Power paid the 5 places so no harm done.

I’m leaving York alone today but couple of horses at Aintree who should go well.

In the 7:05 Virgilio will take an awful lot of beating if running to the same level of form as per Warwick last weekend and I’ll have my normal EW bet on old favourite Kingsmere in the 8:10.
