It’s the first day of the York Dante meeting, the going is currently soft but this should improve moving forward as the weather is forecast is decent for the next few days.

A tough opening day with plenty of runners in difficult looking handicaps, I’ve had a small investment on Jack Dexter EW, in the 3:15.

Priced at 5-1 the Jim Goldie runner loves soft ground and always gives a run for your money. Jack Dexter ran sound on seasonal debut when 3rd in a similar event to this, that effort should have blown away the cobwebs and put him spot on for today.

Looking through the main dangers quite a few of these might be better at five furlongs whilst it’s a big ask for a 3 year old namely Astaire to win, young horses have a poor record in the race.

Stall 1 is a worry for the selection I would have preferred a double figure draw but with luck in running Jack Dexter will be staying on when others have cried enough and should go well at an EW price.
