West Of The Edge won nicely on debut for us on Saturday. The manner of the victory and the win was a little surprising to be honest as we’ve not been hard on the horse. We also thought the ground might have been on the quick side.

The race wasn’t great but West Of The Edge did it nicely winning by 7 lengths and proved to be very well handicapped. He’s the type of horse I thought Dr Newland could do very well with.

I’m still surprised we picked him up for £14,000. Staying chasers, with proven stamina over three miles five normally go for big money especially in their prime, 8 years and upwards.

Sometimes you have to look past recent form, thankfully his owners could see where we were coming from and they look to have an exciting horse on their hands. West of The Egde looks a bargain buy.
