Couple of profitable bets highlighted on yesterdays update.

Firstly, Any Currency ran his normal game race in the Cross Country event, the horse was picked up jumping the last and had to settle for 2nd place behind Josies Orders who was carrying a stone and 9lb less. Any Currency deserves another win in the cross country, he’s such an honest horse that loves this race, if they went another circuit he would be a cert every time.

A Hare Breath landed the money in the last and some hefty bets in the process, this was a grand training performance by Ben Pauling. The horse had been working v well at Lambourn whilst had also done bits of work with some of Nicky Henderson’s string and gone v well indeed.

The big race today is the Paddy Power Gold Cup, I’ll be cheering on Boondooma & Present View for obvious reasons.

In the 1:50 Shotgun Paddy could go well at a big price “14-1 EW” Emma Lavelle’s horses are in great form at the moment. If you’re willing to forget last season’s efforts Shotgun Paddy has a sound chance on past form and is apparently working well at home.

Un Ace is a horse I have a lot of time for, on his day the Kim Bailey trained runner is very smart. Today’s trip is a total unknown but based on his chase rating that’s 5lb higher he could be well in here despite shouldered with top weight. Un Ace holds a Hennessy Gold Cup entry so the worry is this might just be a prep outing, if ready to roll however he’s not a 20-1 shot.

At shorter prices, Bedale Lane 12:20 Wetherby is expected whilst Un Temps Pour Tout if taking to a fence should take some catching in the 1:15 at Cheltenham.

The Cheltenham sales took place last night after racing and it was good to see Jamie Snowden pick up a new owner that’s willing to spend the cash. With help from bloodstock agent Tom Malone the partnership secured the sales top lot “Three Ways” for £190,000 pounds. An impressive bumper winner on debut and out of the top jump sire Flemenfirth, Three Ways looks a very nice recruit.
