Plenty of racing this afternoon with some good prize money up for grabs, however maybe there’s one fixture too many as the field sizes aren’t great. Ascot has really pushed the boat out with each of it’s 7 race card offering plenty of money for the winner, even the bumper worth over £4,500.

Despite this the average field size is just 5 runners and that includes the Betfair Ascot Chase worth over £85,000 to the winner. A lot of horses will be aimed at Cheltenham now but everything can't run at the Festival, something is wrong somewhere and maybe there's just too many fixtures.

Finding some decent value is tough this afternoon due to the field sizes, I don’t like thin priced runners but on paper there’s a couple that should take a fair amount of beating.

Virak, 2:05 Ascot & Champagne Fever 2:10 Gowran Park should both score, but maybe the best bet of the day at ok odds is Irving in the 3:35 at Wincanton.

It’s a 3 horse race between the Paul Nicholls trained runner Irvine, Sign Of A Victory & Blue Heron.

Sign Of A Victory should have run last weekend in the Betfair but was pulled out due to been lame, the horse won’t like today’s soft ground either so I’m willing to take him on. Blue Heron is a decent horse but not quite Grade 2 level and can be beaten.

This leaves Irving who does give weight away and comes back from a pulled up when not right in the Christmas Hurdle but Paul Nicholls wouldn’t be running him if he wasn’t happy whilst Irvine is the form pick by a fair way.

Priced at 11-8 Irvine should go close if back to his best.

Just a handful of shares are left in our new horse Kenobe Star, please see the previous post for full details. His pedigree, size & scope can't be faulted plus we secured him for a fraction of his true value.
