Young Racal was a very impressive winner of the The Chester Vase on Wednesday. Trained by William Haggas, I loved the way this horse travelled through the race and showed a great attitude to go through a small gap whilst taking a bump in the process. Although the winning distance wasn’t huge, Young Rascal looked to have loads left in the tank. With a clearer run he would have won cosily.

I snapped up some of the 16-1 on offer for the Derby straight after the race. Those odds have now gone but 12-1 is available. Saxon Warrior is the worthy favourite for the Derby but if anything happened to him, I would be hopeful Young Rascal could be the one to pick up the pieces. He looks a nice EW bet.

The Chester Cup ran today at 3:35 today is always a good spectacle. 17 runners around the tight turns of Chester tends to result in plenty of bumping and hard luck stories. It’s not a race to go mad in but I’ve backed Magic Circle EW at 7-1. He’s been laid out for this race since being purchased by Dr Marwan Koukash who loves a winner at his beloved Chester. He should run well from stall 6.

At Ascot this evening, the well thought of Dreamfield makes his comeback. He missed a year with injury but still works very well and holds some big entries. He’s a short price at odds of 6-4 but could outclass his rivals.

Braemar 7:50 Nottingham had zero luck in running on his handicap debut, he looks to have a good chance of getting his head in front tonight. Priced at 2-1.

There won’t be an update tomorrow, we have a stable morning at Alastair Ralph’s yard to watch our horses work on the gallops.
