The Newmarket Craven meeting kicked off the flat season proper yesterday, it was a shame the racing took place on bad ground and we can likely question some of the results.

However Nathra winning the Nell Gwyn stakes, a good trial for the 1000gns boosted her claims. It’s possible though she might head abroad and not run in the English version. Her win ensured Minding was cut for the 1000gns without leaving her box, the Aidan O’Brien trained filly will take some beating and holds all the aces at this moment in time.

I’ve not had a bet today as soft ground flat racing is very hard to predict especially at this early stage of the season. If I was having a few bob on something, maybe Tullius could go ok EW in the 4:30. The horse will hold a fitness advantage over the majority of these and the going will be fine. 7-1 looks just about ok in a tough race.
