The 2016 Grand National was a great renewal, conditions ensured it was a real slog and reminded how the race used to be in the past.

The Mouse Morris trained Rule The World ran out a good winner and was amazingly winning over fences for the first time, some way to lose the maiden tag! It was a great training effort as the horse has come back from two broken pelvis injuries whilst Mr Morris year has not been great with the loss of a family member.

Its possible Rule The World will now be retired.

Goonyella rewarded some EW support for me but my main pick Many Clouds, faded out of contention due to his weight and mainly the ground going against him.

The Aintree meeting was excellent, we witnessed some fantastic racing, thrills and spills. All horses returned safely from The Grand National for the 3rd year running and that’s the most important thing.
