I think we saw the 1000gns winner yesterday, Minding trained by Aiden O’Brien. A daughter of the top class sire Galileo, Minding looks a beast of a filly. I was very taken by her performance, the way she moved effortlessly behind Group 1 horses then quickened away under hands and heels was mightily impressive.

Jockey Ryan Moore jumped off her and said she’s exceptional, I think that’s the first time Ryan Moore has ever said anything like that about any horse, his comments should be noted. If you don’t mind having a long term bet and risking Minding has a good winter, fill your boots on her to win the 1000 Guineas and take the 4-1.

More excellent racing today mainly at Newmarket where we have the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes & the highly competitive Cesarewitch Handicap.

The Dewhurst should be a two horse race between Air Force Blue & Emotionless.

Air Force Blue has already won two Group 1 races and is the likely winner however Emotionless was very impressive when winning a Group 2 on his latest start. The race should be a matchup and it makes sense to go with the bigger priced of the pair, 13-8 against even money is a bit of value so I’ll take Emotionless and have a small interest in the race.

The Cesarewitch is a lucky pin stick job as it always is, I backed Noble Silk at 40-1 EW after his Doncaster 3rd back in September. I was taken by the way the Lucy Wadham horse canted through the race over a trip that would have been on the short side, I dare say this race has been the main target all season. Oisin Murphy takes the ride and has a good record on the horse. Noble Silk could do with firmer ground but he should go ok, 25-1 is available 5 places.

Gavlar could also get involved at a big price, 33-1. He stays and has a decent young jockey taking 7lb off.

I have to give Johara another chance in the 5:00 at Newmarket. I was very keen on the Chris Wall horse in the Ayr Silver Cup but she had zero chance from her high draw and looked to be having an off day as fillies do at times. If you can forgive that run odds of 25-1 look a bit big this afternoon. Johara does have a bit to prove now and would need a career best but were not backing a 2-1 shot. I’ve had a few quid EW and hope she can show her true form.

Golden Steps was very unlucky in the Ayr Gold Cup and finished full of running, he returns today in the 3:25 at York. Granted a clear path a decent run looks on the cards, priced at 10-1 EW.

At a shorter price I hear Best Example 5:30 Chelmsford is working better than its handicap mark, he’s not been seen for a year but the horse shouldn’t lack for fitness. The promising Hector Crouch rides in this apprentice race. The odds of 5-2 are a bit tight but Best Example is expected to go nicely.
