It’s been a strange old week with the shutdown of racing due to equine flu. The BHA acted quickly and made tough decisions. Although equine flu is rarely a killer it’s contagious and can spread quickly.

174 yards are now in lockdown including three of our trainers, many thousands of horses have been tested up and down the country. I think the chances of racing starting again on Wednesday, is slim but would love to be proved wrong.

If any other yards are confirmed to have equine flu, we’re in trouble and could see racing off for several weeks. Fingers crossed this isn’t the case.

We were due to have Leoncavallo running in the Betfair Hurdle today, this most valuable handicap race in the country. Hopefully the race can be saved, and things get back to normal very quickly.
