Settimo Milanese ran like a horse that needed his break yesterday as we feared. He found the race coming quickly after Aintree, the petrol tank was running on empty. His ability and willingness kept him in contention, but Charlie wasn’t happy with Settimo from an early stage. This showed in his jumping.

Settimo had been running in Ireland before we purchased him, he’ll now go on holiday and come back in the spring. We think he’s smart and can’t wait go chasing next season.

I’m surprised we can run Aldrin at Market Rasen today. I fully expected the ground to be given as soft after the rain on Wednesday. The going has been given as good, we’ll see what the ground is after the first race when jockeys report back.

This will be the last chance we can run Aldrin on a half decent surface this year. The trip of 2m2 is a question mark. We rode Buzz too handy last time out at Huntingdon, we’ll go back to a hold up effort today and see how we go. With Tom Scudamore riding at Newbury, Charlie Hammond comes in for the ride and takes a useful 5lb off with his claim.
