Golden Horn was a very impressive winner of the Epsom Derby, the horse showed a great turn of foot when asked to go by Frankie Dettori and put the race to bed in a matter of strides. It was a one two for his trainer John Gosden as Jack Hobbs finished second.

I’m not sure there was a huge amount of strength in depth to this year’s race however you had to be impressed with the winner who looked hard to beat on paper if staying the trip, going forward Golden Horn will be hard to beat wherever he lines up and looks a smart colt in the making.

The owners of Sioux Chieftain had a great morning at Dr Newland’s yard on Saturday. Top jockey Will Kennedy came in to ride the horse and liked him a lot. Gary as we call him came up the gallops nicely whilst covers a lot of ground due to his big frame.

It was good to meet the new owners and the weather was kind, Sioux Chieftain will have a few more days of schooling before a holiday and run during the jump season proper.
