The Haldon Gold Cup ran at Exeter on Tuesday looked a strong renewal with the likes of Cue Card, Somserby, Balder Succes & Hinterland all lining up, however it was the Tom George trained God’s Own that caused a minor upset as he proved his Grade 1 win at Punchestown when last seen was no fluke.

Always going nicely under Paddy Brennan God’s Own tracked the leaders before going on two out and readily put the race to bed with Balder Success 5 lengths behind in 2nd place. This looked a decent performance from God’s Own who looks a smart prospect for the season ahead whilst he’s still a novice.

Cue Card looked one paced over this shorter distance and needs a trip now whilst Somersby made his normal one race losing error. The disappointment of the race was Hinterland who reportedly broke a blood vessel. From memory this is not the first time he’s bled, normally running fresh from a break is the time to catch horse that bleed but doing it again on seasonal debut must be a worry for the champion trainer and his owners. I hope they can sort him out as Hinterland has looked well above average at times.

Rhythm Star has come out of her race at Uttoxeter fine, she will have needed the run and should be out again in approx 3 weeks. Dino Mite is building up to her debut over hurdles and learning to jump, so far she’s done everything nicely and has a lovely attitude.

Her owners are having their stable day at Jamie’s on Saturday, the plan is to watch her jump a few baby hurdles on the Lambourn gallops so here’s hoping the weather is kind and we have a good day.

Our new purchase Ebony Express is also learning to jump, he’s settled in well at Dr Newland’s and is going over poles in the manege, a few shares are still available in this exciting prospect. If you would like any info please get in touch.
