Mountain Rescue was beaten 3 lengths at Wolverhampton on Thursday, that was some effort considering he’ s got the bug that’s going around Newmarket. George Baker informed he was never happy from the word go and felt very lethargic. That’s very unlike our horse who enjoys his racing.

Many of the yards in Newmarket have coughs and it shows with the performances of their horses, some have gone into lockdown as per Roger Varian. You can guarantee with the big training centres like Newmarket and Lambourn, if one yard gets a bug / virus it goes down the road and everybody shares the damn thing.

Anyhow, it’s Shergar Cup day and the worst flat meeting of the season. Each to their own but I don’t like the concept. Team tactics are not for horse racing in my opinion and I’ll be giving Ascot a wide berth.

Good racing at Haydock but nothing takes the eye. The only bet I’ve placed and it’s a fairly small one due to it been trained in Newmarket is Manshood in the 7:50 at Lingfield.

A 380,000gns buy and down the field on his debut. The horse was very green but does work nicely at home. Hopefully the experience will have done him good and Manshood can be seen in a better light this evening.
