With the Epsom Derby just 48 hours away it’s the weather that’s the main talking point, heavy rain has eased the ground to good soft whilst the forecast for Saturday is just horrible.

If the going does come up soft this will likely rule out the chances of True Story who I put on the blog a few weeks ago at 16-1. His Dante effort I didn’t think was that bad considering the horse was taken out of the race by The Grey Gatsby. That horse  boosted the form when winning a Group 1 in Chantilly last week.

Jockey Kieren Fallon seems very bullish about True Story’s chances providing the going is good, I’m hoping the rain keeps away but have placed a small saver bet on Kingston Hill at 10-1.

Congratulations to our syndicate trainer Ed Walker who sent out the very impressive winner Lightning Moon at the weekend. William Buick oozed confidence on the horse and never had to move a muscle to ensure an 8 length win. What he beat I’m not 100% sure but the manner of the victory was visually very impressive, Lightning Moon looks well above average and should go on to run in some nice races.

We had no joy on the blog on Saturday, Garswood ran a bizarre race. On all known form he should have taken plenty of beating. Despite travelling great whilst in a perfect position Garswood lost his place at a crucial time before finishing well, just missed 3rd place.

On this evidence it look like Garswood needs a mile but he’s tried that before and doesn’t stay, based on the winning race times the going looked to be riding quicker than the description. Keep with the horse when seen running over 7 furlongs on proper soft / heavy ground, unfortunately these conditions will be limited.

We have our very own Duke Of Destiny running this afternoon, 5:45 Lingfield. The horse taken a few runs to come to hand, fresh and pulled his chance away on reappearance at Nottingham but ran a fair race at Newmarket despite missing the break.

The return to a mile will suit but this does look quite trappy contest with no obvious pace plus majority of runners all capable of beating each other on a going day. We’ll need luck in running but were hoping for a nice run.
