Newt ran very well for her owners at Worcester on Wednesday. Her debut effort was all wrong and could be forgiven. Newt had never seen a rubber hurdle before and scared herself at the first. It was a very different performance at Worcester, Newt jumped soundly and ran well in the best Juvenile hurdle of the Summer so far. She got a little out-paced on the turn for home before staying on strongly. Newt will require further than two miles, she’s going to be a nice staying mare.
Aldrin didn’t run his race at Newton Abbot, he looked home for all money when cantering in 2nd place on the turn for home. A little niggle stopped him going through with his effort. Aldrin will have one more run this season and then a holiday, we like this horse and think he could be decent.
With Milrow & Trafalgar Rock been sold and Ebony Express retiring, our Spring & Summer team for next year needs re-stocking. I was delighted to secure a fine-looking gelding called Competition last week in a private deal. This horse had been on my radar for some time and we think he’s a smart one waiting to get out. Competition is the replacement for Milrow, he stands at 16.3 hands and looks the part. We’ll give him a good break and bring him back in the Spring.
The re-stocking shall continue with a trip to the Doncaster sales on Wednesday. Hopefully we can find the Trafalgar Rock replacement here or maybe at Newmarket in October.
As for the racing today, I quite liked Intimation EW in the 3:00 at Sandown but she isn’t an EW price. Lady Perignon could return to form, she runs in the 4:45 at Sandown. Lady Perignon can be forgiven her last run when the going was against her and maybe needed the run on seasonal debut.
Lady Perignon holds C&D form and might outrun her odds of 8-1 EW. She’s a bit of a stab in the dark to be honest on a tough day where little stands out.
