We had a great day at Wetherby, Sioux Chieftain won on hurdles debut and got his owners off to a lovely start. We purchased the horse in a private deal last year and thought he could be a useful recruit to National Hunt racing. He doesn’t look like a flat horse as he’s a big well built type with plenty of size, nearly 16.3.

The win was a little surprising to be honest as he certainly wasn’t fully fit and will improve for the run mentally as he’s been off the track for best part of a year.

I was delighted for his jockey Charlie Hammond who gave Gary a lovely ride, it was Charlie’s first winner as a conditional for Dr Newland and he deserves it as he’s working very hard. Sioux Chieftain is fine this morning and that’s always the most important thing. We're in no rush with the horse and will look for another race in a month or so.

The flat racing returns today with the Lincoln the main race of the day. I’ve not had much time to go through today’s racing, however I thought Hit List in the 5:40 at Doncaster could be thrown in.
